Abstract
Auth ors aapplied 24 cases of chronic cervicitis and 33 cases of cervical carcinoma (epidermoid carcinoma) to observe histologically the appearance rates of mast cells based on the degree of inflammatory cell infiltration, the extent of carcinomatous infiltration, and the degree of inflammatory changes accompanied by the carcinomas. The results are as follows:
1. In chronic cervicitis, more mast cells appeared in diffuse form than in normal form when inflammatory changes were severe. When thechanges were mild, a contrary phenomenon took place.
2. In cervica1 carcinoma, mast cells in diffuse form appeared more in the groups with wider extent of infiltration of neoplastic tissue, while those in mormal form increased when carcinomatous infiltration was mild.
3. In cervical cancer, no significant difference seemed to exist beteenw the degreeof the infiltration of accompanying inflammatory cells and the appeara~ice rate of mast cells.
